Mandi Skierks – Photographer/Artist
Born in the South-West suburbs of Chicago in a very small and close-knit town, forming a career choice outside of office-work was extremely difficult to defend. Coming from old Italian/Polish traditions made it worse, as I became only the second person in my family to attend art school, as well as the second person ever to attend School of the Art Institute of Chicago from my high school.

I studied both digital and film photography, mastering the basics of both while creating a personal style for each. I work mainly in digital as I prefer the detailed look and color, over film's slightly dull look. Aside from sharing my work digitally, I print pieces as well, selling a few unconventionally to friends, family, or interested buyers from social media.

My main style would be showing something beautiful within that which could be deemed as ugly or dangerous. My work sometimes veers into photojournalism and street photography but I prefer candid and landscape photography most, as they are my strongest subjects. I'm unafraid of jumping into dangerous situations to gain the perfect shot, and will happily share some thrilling stories.

As for the future, I plan to travel the world, learning of new cultures, seeing new sites, while still remaining humble to my Chicago family and home. Of the 50 states, I have yet to visit 41 but I'm excited to venture into the unknown.
